About
The Lincoln School Alumni Foundation (LSAF) was created in 1986 by former students inspired and encouraged in large part by founding president, Herman Shaw. Shaw spearheaded a long campaign to prevent the pending demolition of the historic Lincoln School building. Shaw knew the preservation of the building would create a living symbol of its legacy in the lives of Edwardsville’s African American community. To this end, he was instrumental in encouraging former Lincoln School alum Mannie Jackson to purchase the historic building as a means of preserving it for future generations.
Herman Edward Shaw Obituary
Herman Edward Shaw, age 91, of Edwardsville, IL, passed on Monday, January 12, 2026. Herman was born April 5, 1934, in Union, Missouri, to Robert L. Shaw and Ethel L. Aitch-Shaw, was one of six children. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church. 7372 Marine Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025 with Bishop Jesse Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Herman Shaw’s name to the Historic Lincoln Alumni Foundation. Condolences may be shared online at weberfuneralhome.com.

Trivia Night
The Historic Lincoln School Alumni Foundation organizes trivia night events, and the proceeds benefit the students and families of District 7. Join us at Edwardsville American Legion on February 28th, 2026 by 6pm. Registration is Open!
Grant
The Foundation’s primary goal is to enhance education opportunities for youth in Edwardsville School District 7. The LSAF awards grants to high school graduates and college students.

Golf Outing
The 37th Harry A. Penelton Annual Golf Scramble has been organized to enhance the educational opportunities of the youth of the Edwardsville School District by providing college grants and other educational opportunities and support to all students in Edwardsville School District #7. Join us by 8:00am on September 12th, 2026 at Oak Brook golf course, Edwardsville, IL.
