Lincoln School Alumni Foundation receives $1,000 from 222 Artisan’s Halloween-themed fundraiser
EDWARDSVILLE — On Wednesday, the highest bidder for four seats to watch the Edwardsville Halloween Parade at 222 Artisan Bakery and Cafe signed a $1,000 check to the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation.
Amy Garrett was the highest bidder for the seats perched near the glass windows of the cafe, located at 222 N. Main St., after outbidding multiple people. Kim Goodner, co-owner of 222, said she is happy with the attention the fundraiser received and believes choosing the right foundation played a big role.
“We wanted to give back to the community by offering these seats and allowing people to bid for them, but we looked for a good cause for the money to go towards,” Goodner said. “After Ben Dickmann and SJ Morrison both recommended it (Lincoln School Alumni Foundation), we began to look into them and learn more about them.”
Goodner explained that after she had learned the foundation offers grants and donates heavily within District 7, she was all for it.
Goodner said she plans to continue the bidding process each year and look for other local foundations or charities to support. She also encourages other businesses on Main Street to do the same, and Garrett agreed.
“Kim had a really good idea to give back to the community and I really hope other companies do the same,” Garrett said.
The foundation’s president, Herman Shaw, and other members were present to accept the gift and express their appreciation.
“We want to give a big ‘thank you’ to 222 and Amy and we are glad to be chosen as the recipient of this generous gift,” Shaw said.
Last year alone, the foundation gave away 19 grants, each $1,000, and donated $20,000 to District 7. The foundation was founded to enhance the educational opportunities in Edwardsville, specifically its youth.
The next fundraiser the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation will host is a trivia night at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2020, at the American Legion in Edwardsville. Information about the trivia night will be on their website, hlsaf.org, shortly.
